    Abstract:

A new finite element-9 node degenerate shell hybrid/mixed element with stress separation is presented in this paper. It is based on a modified Hellinger-Reissner principle. This element not only possesses following merits: (i) High accurate stress and displacement evaluation; (ii) Free from zero energy or kinematic deformation modes; (iii) Largely weaken the locking effect; (iv) Invariant with reference coordinates. but also improves its efficiency to set against other hybrid/mixed finite elements. Transverse shearing effect is taken into account. Several numerical examples are solved, and the solutions are compared to the existing ones. The results show that the present element yields accurate solutions for shallow and deep shells.
