    Abstract:

With tetrapyridine nickel dinitrile (TPNDN) as Catalyst, the poly-p-phenylene (ppph) is synthesized from bromobenzene. The derivatives of ppph, poly (2,5-dimethoxy)-p-phenylene,poly (2,5-diethoxy)-p-phenylene and poly (2,5-dibutoxy)-p-phenylene are synthesized from hydroquinone by using FeCl3 as catalyst. IR spectra of these polymers are presented and conductivity and current versus voltage (I-V) characteristics are determined.
