ESPRIT algorithm is a fast direction finding method with high resolution, but it is a 1-D method and can't be generalized to 2-D directly. This paper, based on a special array geometry, proposes a new 2-D direction finding method-2-D Virtual ESPRIT algorithm, whose low computation cost is comparable with to that of 1-D ESPRIT algorithm.
