After studying the correlation matrix of 2D harmonic signal, we present a new algorithm called “matrix pencil algorithm for 2D harmonic retrieval problem”(MP2D).This algorithm is highly efficient in computation because it does not have to solve the roots of 2D polynomial or search for the peak of 2D frequency space. The simulation experiments show that this algorithm has high precision for 2D frequencies estimation and low sensitivity to noise.
