    Abstract:

A new approach producing strong pulsed IR is studied theoretically and experimentally. Cylindrically imploding shock waves have been generated by use of strong impulse current making thin copper wires explode. Cylindrically imploding shock waves can make Argon ionized produce plasma and excite strong pulsed IR. The study indicates that strong pulsed IR of MW power and 10μs FWHM can be gained by using this approach.
