This paper，from the viewpoint of the measurement of physical quantity，synthesizes the standard error in the use of direct & indirect measurement，error analysis and result processing，and gives an explanation and illustration of it. It also makes a comprehensive survey of different textbooks and formulations，and redresses the incorrect expressions of error and confused ideas about the concept，consequently reaches an integral realization and correct usage about standard error.
